Ladies in Goal Fest!

Courtown Hibs Ladies played away in Kilmore this morning. This game was a thriller The home side played with the breeze for the first half and it counted straight away with a mistake straight away from the Hibs defence punished 1st minute. A nervous Hibs took a while to settle but Kilmore put two more goals away and we were 3:0 down after twenty mins. Hibs settled and began to play football and took the game to Kilmore. The pressure told with Marian Cardiff came out best of a 50/50 with Kilmore keeper 3:1 half hour gone. However the joy was short lived as a cross from the right caught our full back in the arms penalty decision converted 4:1 to Kilmore. An outstanding save from Jean Kavanagh pushing the ball onto the crossbar and then getting up quickly to smother the ball at the feet of the onrushing the attacker. Hibs never gave up and rallied and pressed the home side and a shot from distance from Marie Nolan was dropped by the home keeper. 4:2 half time. Second half begun with Hibs pressure and the home side always dangerous with two pacey strikers. The strong wind had died and gone But Hibs played with the ball on the ground and peppered the Kilmore goal. Getting closer and closer. Hibs played quick 1-2 football breaking down the right and a cross from Marian was met by Sarah Lynch who calmly finished 4:3. Hibs pressed again and with 15 minutes left the outstanding Leoni Gleeson playing centre half broke through from the back played a 1-2 with Aoife stumbling from an off the ball challenge stood up and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. This game was box to box for the last ten minutes and wit two minutes left Marie Nolan took the ball down in midfield and cut in on her left foot and let fly with a looping shot that dropped under the crossbar to give Hibs the lead. 5:4 Kilmore tipped off and went on the attack and from a failed clearance the Kilmore striker raced through to score the equaliser 5:5 Final whistle and a bottle of valium later Thanks for the never say die attitude of these ladies showing great character to turn this game around anď remain unbeaten three wins and a draw so far 6 games to go girls. Also a huge mention to Captain for the day Aoife Gleeson who is getting married Friday and playing whole heartedly with a 50/50 collision with the keeper giving her all for the team and club as always Best wishes to Aoife and Paul for their wedding day and a happy life.
