ASTROTURF TRAINING FACILITY

Heading 1

03/02/2020 Update

The club have selected a preferred contractor for the redevelopment of the all weather to an astroturf facility. The contract for the works is scheduled to be signed by mid February with works commencing in March. The lighting upgrade is due to take place after completion of the resurfacing works

At our first committee meeting of 2018/2019 it was decided to proceed with the development of the long awaited Astroturt Pitch on the site of the existing gravel surface. The primary source of funding for this would be through club fundraising.

This Astroturf provides the club with a long term training solution to cater for all teams. It has the added bonus of being a revenue turner for the club also. It was unanimously decided that without developing this facility the club would run the risk of being left behind in terms of facilities.

As of the end of July 2018 tenders had been sent out to specialist contractors. A return date of October is expected with works commencing potentially as early as December 2018. The pitch will be a 3G pitch with a double mesh, 3m high fence surrounding the pitch. The pitch will also be able to be split, allowing for numerous trainings at once. Floodlights will be upgraded during the process with LED lighting thus reducing carbon footprint and providing a cheaper long term alternative than standard lighting heads.

In November 2019 we received €42,000 from the Department of Sport through the Sports Capital Programme. This funding will allow us to proceed to construction stage of the project with a view to having this complete by summer 2020.

As this will be primarily funded through club members and supporters we urge all with an interest in this project to step forward and assist the club with their fundraising efforts. We are actively exploring the crowd funding model for this. Anybody with an interest in providing assistance to the crowdfunding, fundraising or wants to help in any way can contact courtownhibs@outlook.ie or Joe on 086 6074080
